MORE RACE DETAILS

WATER STATIONS & RESTROOMS:
REMINDER! We are going CUPLESS this year! See below for how that works and how to prepare!
There will be one water station for the 5K, 2 water stations for the 10K, and at least 6 for the half and 10 miler!
Each water station will be equipped with water and electrolytes and gels (5K station will not have gels, however). There will also be restrooms available all along the course.
TRAIL OR ROAD? HOW CHALLENGING IS THE COURSE?
The new course we have laid out will feature lots of packed gravel and dirt. There will be sectiosn of paved paths but there will be equal amounts of dirt/gravel sections. There are no loose gravel sections, so the footing is pretty solid, but after a heavy rain, there can be puddles and some dirty sections. It is somewhere between trail and road. 🙂 The 5K is mostly paved and the 10K is fairly smooth as well. The Half and 10 Milers are the more challenging courses…especially the half. The Half marathon goes along Round Lake that features some very steep but wide dirt paths. Footing would benefit from trail shoes. Please make sure you are able to complete a hilly course before attempting this distance!
IS THERE REALLY A PEEPS MARSHMALLOW STATION?
Does the Easter Bunny hop? Of course we will! We will have a peeps station on the 5K course and out along the Heritage Trail near the Lake. That means if you do the 5K, you’ll get one chance to refuel with those legendary Easter snacks!
IS THERE A TIME LIMIT ON ANY RACE?
The only distance that has a time limit is the half marathon, which needs to be completed within about 4.5 hours.
DOG & STROLLER POLICY:
No dogs are allowed at the venue or the course. Please leave pets at home! Strollers are only allowed on the 5K course but NOT allowed on the 10K, Half, or 10 Mile courses given the out and back nature of the courses and some narrow trail sections that will make passing difficult.
GETTING THERE AND PARKING:
Parking is limited at the venue, so in order to guarantee a spot in the lot a block away, please make sure you CARPOOL and arrive EARLY. See a link to the closest parking lot we will be using. For cars arriving after we fill this lot, we will be directing you to THIS LOT as well as another nearby lot.

SHIPPING FOR VIRTUAL PARTICIPANTS ONLY

YES, we can ship your virtual items (no, we cannot ship regular race items in order to guarantee you have your race items for the race).  There is a cost to have your items shipped, but simply fill out the shipping request via the button below and we will ship your packet to you. NOTE: We will NOT automatically ship it unless you request this via this link!

NOTE ON CHAMPAGNE ITEMS: We cannot ship the champagne/orange juice combo (complications from shipping alcoholic beverages in different states) but champagne flutes will be included!  NOTE ON DELIVERY TIME: Mailed packets are not estimated to be received by participants until the week after the first day of the race.

HELP REDUCE WASTE!

Did you know that we go through over 6,000 cups in a typical 1,000 person race that just end up in the landfill and require harvesting trees to produce the paper cups? Did you know there’s a solution that is pretty darn simple and involves just one cup that you can reuse for ALL of your races and in your car and anywhere that you may need a cup in a hurry?  Read below about our cupless plan this year!

WILL THERE BE ANY PAPER CUPS?

Yes, some. Cupless is not required and we will have cups on our courses for 2023 for the time being. BUT we are going to be reminding everyone about our cupless challenge repeatedly as we near the event! It’s our goal that you CHOOSE to make this change before we mandate it!

WHERE DO I GET A REUSABLE and COLLAPSIBLE RACE CUP?

If you already have one, you are all set! Just put it in your pocket on race day! If you don’t, you can buy those in any local running shop or almost any outdoor shop! We’ll have some super affordable options at bib pick up as well to ensure that you don’t have to commit much money at all to do. You can also buy a Nathan TWO PACK HERE for just $10!

HOW WILL YOU DISTRIBUTE WATER IN EACH CUP?

We will separate our water stations into two sections to accommodate cupless participants as they approach first and those that opt for a cup will have a second station to fill. The cupless station will have volunteers simply pouring water in the cup as you hold it out. There will also be water jugs with a spigot for you to self-fill.

DO I NEED TO USE A COLLAPSIBLE CUP OR CAN I USE ANY WATER CARRIER?

There are a ton of other hydration options including larger hand-helds, packs, and water belts. If you have those, you are welcome to bring those instead! Those options also offer some additional benefits given that you can store more water and drink between stations and enjoy less congestion at the water stations. Contact any Foot Traffic store if you need guidance on what options are best for you!

WHY AREN’T YOU PROVIDING FREE REUSABLE COLLAPSIBLE CUPS?

This is very simple. Races that have to produce and provide thousands of free reusable cups is akin to the fallacy of providing a free reusable grocery bag to anyone going into the grocery store buying groceries. What ends up happening is we end up with a whole new issue of plastic waste with everyone expecting to have those provided at any race. We replace one issue with another one! It’s our goal to help encourage everyone to remember to simply BRING YOUR OWN reusable cup just like bringing your own reusable grocery bag that you hopefully reuse for dozens or hundreds of races throughout the years! We understand some of you may forget, and that’s OK. But eventually, we can all train ourselves to make a few small changes like this!

NOT SURE HOW TO VIRTUAL RACE?

IT’S FUN, EASY, AND FLEXIBLE!

1.) Choose your virtual distance and plan your race day: Choose from any of the above distances and complete your race any day over a two week period starting from race weekend and two weeks after.
2.) Pick a course anywhere you want: Find any course that fits your distance. Take off from your front door or from another state! You can even use the same course we do on any day other than race day!

3.) Submit your results! Starting on the first day, you will receive an automated text message that you can submit your results to. You can also submit your results via email. You can submit a link to your Garmin, Strava, a picture of your watch, or just a text of your time! Any results work, but we rely on the honor system. Verified distances/times from apps such as Strava will be noted, however, on the results so people can compare verified times.

4.) GETTING YOUR SWAG! Swag is equally as fun as the run or walk! Get your shirt, medal, bibs, and any other gear by picking it up at any in-person bib pick up or request to have it shipped using the SHIPPING OPTION on the registration page  (alcohol will not be shipped, however). NOTE: Items will not be shipped prior to the first race day, so please plan accordingly to pick those up in advance if you want them before the race. Most of our items like medals are often arriving that week so assembling them is occuring that week and getting sent out immediately after the race.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How long do I have to do the open-course/virtual race? You have two weeks starting from the weekend of the race to complete your race(s).
  • Do I need to wear a mask? At this point, there are no mask requirements. If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask during periods of closer contact with others, it is always advised that you take precautions that you feel comfortable with.
  • Can I use a stroller on the course? See above. Strollers are allowed on the 5K course, but the 10K, Half, and 10 Mile courses are too narrow to allow a stroller given the out and back nature of those courses.
  • Can I bring a dog on the course? Unfortunately, our insurance doesn’t allow dogs to be at the venue or course. Please leave the pups at home. If you have a dog in the start area, you may be asked to return your dog to a vehicle.
  • How are we doing the packet distribution for the virtual race?  We are offering a bib pick up over the course of multiple days before the race (dates above). If you want your items BEFORE the official starting race date, you will need to pick them up at these times given that the items will likely not be able to be packaged and sent in time after they are received the week before the race.
  • Can I have my items shipped? Yes, but ONLY FOR THE VIRTUAL RACES. You can request this for a $12 fee using the link above. We can ship all items except the champagne/orange juice combo given varying rules for shipping alcohol. Champagne flutes will ship too! We encourage folks to pick up at our multiple safe and spread out bib pick up dates if you are local given it will expedite the shipping and delivery process. But we know some of you will be unable to attend these. You must pay for and request it in order to get your items via mail. See below for shipping times.
  • How much does it cost to have my items shipped? Only for the virtual race. There will be a flat fee of $12 for those in the continental US. Outside the US or Alaska or Hawaii could incur an extra charge based on location.
  • When can you ship my items? Given that most items will not arrive to us until the week of the race, it will be unlikely that we will be able to ship the packets to participants before race day. But…given that the race date is open for two weeks, we will first focus on in-store packet pick up dates the week prior to the race and then begin shipping items out immediately after.
  • How do I submit my virtual results? You will get a results link email and texted to you before the race date. You will simply respond to those with your results! If you do not get those, you can also just email them to results@hubertiming.com
  • I need to change my address for my shipping. How do I do that? Simply email info@foottraffic.us to do this!
  • Can I do this race if I’m out of town? YES! That’s the beauty of a virtual race. We’ll ship your items to you!
