About our Youth X-Country Club

For over 18 years, Foot Traffic has been hosting and sponsoring youth and adult track and cross country races in the Portland Metro area. Our goal has always been to simply introduce the sport to as many students as possible with an emphasis on participation and having a ton of fun!

17 years ago, Foot Traffic instituted it’s first youth cross country club to better serve those young athletes that either didn’t have the means to participate, or simply didn’t know about the sport. Our experienced coaches provide a variety of group workouts and structured practice schedules based on the participants skill level. So whether you young athlete is a returning runner or a first-time jogger, they are sure to exit the program feeling excited and enthusiastic about the sport!

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: COVID19 guidelines

The Foot Traffic Youth XC club practices two afternoons a week. Our traditional XC MEETS will be cancelled this year. Please have your athletes bring a water bottle, sunblock (when necessary), a light jacket, a mask, and be well prepared about social distancing requirements. Parental attendance is not necessary, but if you want to stay with your child and help out, just let our coaches know!

COVID 19 GUIDELINES:
  • All coaches will wear masks where appropriate. At times, they may have to pull their masks down at a distance in order to safely and effectively notify athletes about where to go and what to do.
  • We use social distancing cones for each athlete to remind everyone of the minimum 6 foot distance requirements.
  • We have amply hand sanitizer on hand at all times.
  • We ask that all parents become our PARTNERS in communication to athletes BEFORE and AFTER they are at practice in order to drive home the social distancing requirements.
  • Athletes are required to bring and wear a mask and/or have a mask ready for when they can’t maintain the 6 foot requirements. If they are running outside that space, we will not require that the athletes wear a mask.

Weather policy:

We practice rain or shine! If we experience severe thunderstorms or ice/snow, we will post notices on the website if we have to cancel, but 99% of the time, we have uninterrupted practices in all kinds of weather. We ask that you bring a jacket and a hat for your child so they are prepared for the occasional rain shower.

NOTE ABOUT STATE OF OREGON FREEZE:

PRACTICE CONTINUES THE FINAL TWO WEEKS WITH MORE RESTRICTIONS

The recent governor’s orders on Friday, Nov. 13th outlines increased restrictions on many activities in our state. However, it is important to note that her announcement (see image at left) makes a explicit effort to exclude “outdoor recreation and sports, youth programs….” and other activities from her freeze order. Our interpretation of this order is that outdoor exercise, when done properly, is still a net benefit to our youth and can be done safely when completed in conjunction with rules for mask wearing and social distancing.

We understand these are difficult times for our state and our children and we take your family’s safety seriously regardless of state orders and have done so since the season began. However, the recent circumstances. With this said, any parent or athlete that doesn’t feel comfortable continuing can receive a $15 refund, store credit, or voucher for our 2021 track programs that we are working on. We don’t want anyone to feel like they are pressured to continue if they don’t feel comfortable. Please email sean@foottraffic.us if you have questions or would like to request one of the above options.

Thank you for remaining vigilant yet resolute in keeping your young athlete’s active. Please continue reminding your young athletes to respect their fellow athlete’s space, regardless of friendship or familiarity, and to continue to wear their masks upon arrival and whenever they can’t maintain at least 8-10 feet of space between each other.
