Overview

Foot Traffic’s Youth Track Club

NOTICE FOR 2026:
Unfortunately, the unhealthy liability/waiver risk climate that has plagued many states—and is even more pronounced in Oregon—has adversely impacted many outdoor recreation providers, both large and small. Without getting into details, we have paused all programming for the time being. It breaks our heart to not offer these programs after over 2 decades and over 10,000 families enjoying our programs and meets. Currently, if someone breaks their wrist or their toe running or jumping, we can be sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Insurance becomes cost prohibitive to allow us to offer the professional and low-to-zero cost kind of programming that we are known for. Fortunately, there has been progress in the Oregon Legislature. Unfortunately, we are still currently facing hurdles based on precedential factors.

The Foot Traffic Youth Track Program is brought to you in part by Foot Traffic and Portland Parks and Recreation and other sponsors and partners.  It is open to all students, grade 2-8. The focus is on introductory workout and introductory track skills for all athletes, with workouts tailored to the athletic ability of the different age groups. A BIG emphasis on FUN and EDUCATION! Our program is designed primarily as an introduction to the sport rather than intense, daily workouts. Coaches are directed to provide guidance on workout principles in a relaxed and fun environment.

Practices/camps include introductions to:

  • Dynamic warm-up, plyometrics and other warm up basics.
  • Distance/endurance workouts.
  • Sprints workouts and practice with starts.
  • Games and workout fundamentals.
  • Beginner hurdles
  • Beginning with shot put
  • Beginning turbo javelin
  • Jumping fundamentals
