It’s our 25th Anniversary year and we’re giving away FREE SHIRTS ALL YEAR LONG with any shoe purchase!
Foot Traffic is turning 25 years old and to celebrate, we are giving each customer a FREE super soft commemorative tech shirt with any shoe purchase! Plus, we’re hosting an epic 25th anniversary block party on Sept. 14th at our Northeast location. RSVP for the party and be entered to win a ton of different community prizes!

A LITTLE BACKGROUND: 25 years ago, Foot Traffic opened in the site of a former video store on the corner of NE 41st and Fremont. Since then, we’ve grown to 5 locations, added multiple large-scale races, and instituted a laundry list of training groups and youth programs to continue to help our community continue to GO BY FOOT!
Foot Traffic’s first location was founded by David Pietka 25 years ago on the principle that a running shoe store can and should be a community hub beyond just retail. Within two years, Sean Rivers graduated from college with a journalism degree and sharply pivoted to small business retail and joined David in the pursuit of small business bliss! Together they expanded Foot Traffic’s footprint (har har!) in the city with more stores, expanded youth programs and meets, races, and countless community outreach programs.
For 15 years, Sean and David owned and operated Foot Traffic together until Sean took over the rest of the ownership in 2018. David and Sean still get together regularly to “talk shop” and talk community and David still can’t help himself with assisting with Foot Traffic’s youth track and cross country meets. Sean operates the store with an amazing crew of managers and buyers that have worked with him a decade or longer! Sean’s more-qualified wife (MBA) and three aspiring entrepreneur daughters are a huge part of the ownership and support many aspects of the business both behind the scenes and at the sales counter!
“I once heard that over three quarters of small businesses don’t make it past year 10. To be at 25 years and still growing is a testament to the relationship we’ve built with our customers. It’s not transactional, it’s relational. And the running and walking community in Portland and Vancouver is second to none when it comes to supporting their vibrant and local shops. It drives me to keep working towards the next 25 years!”
– Sean Rivers, Owner
